SA BORDER TO THREE WAYS VIA ALICE SPRINGS

NORTHERN TERRITORY REST AREAS

Several sites have been omitted due to being either closed or unsuitable for overnight camping, truck stops or dog areas.

9th October 2004 - SA - NT Border - 159k North Marla - 19k South Kulgera – There is a large bitumen area with some shade at the border rest area – composting toilets and limited water is available as well as wood BBQ’s.

8th October 2004 - Kulgera Roadhouse – Kulgara – Very clean ameneties. Swimming pool spotless and under cover.

5th April 2005 – Desert Oaks Rest Area – Sturt Highway - Approx 32k North Eridunda - 169k South Of Alice Springs – Well off the road this is a good overnight stopping area that was cleaned under contract and was spotless during our stay.

6th April 2005 - Finke River - 126k South Alice Springs - 75k North Eridunda This area was upgraded in 2005 and new facilities were installed. Only a small area, it is still suitable for an overnight stay. There are no time limit signs at this rest area.

8th October 2004 - Un-named Rest Area - 60k South of Alice - 20k North Stuarts Well - Can Be Invisible From Road - Opposite Owen Springs Tourist Drive Turn-off – Overnight Site - - Not Signposted But it is Really Big, Flat, Gravel, Some Bitumen, Grass, Trees - Can Be Invisible From Highway.

3rd October 2004 - Historic Telegraph Station - Barrow Creek. A “must see” spot on your trip along the Stuart Highway between Ti-Tree and Wycliffe Well where there are toilets and water.

3rd October 2004 - Wycliffe Well Roadhouse & Caravan Park - Wycliffe Well - Stuart Highway.
Have a look at the "UFO" Hot Spot at Wycliffe. A great photo opportunity before heading to the Devils Marbles Campground. The roadhouse is also a Caravan Park with an undercover pool and plenty of shade.

7th April 2005 - Devils Marbles National Park is 104k South Tennant Creek or 10k North Wauchope and 1k East the Highway. Another must see on your journey and climbing amongst the rocks is recommended. The park has a very large camping area with shelter sheds and pit toilets. Have the camera ready for spectacular sunrises and sunsets

10th April 2005 - Not far north of Tennant Creek and 21k South of Three Ways is Mary Anne Dam where respite from the heat can be enjoyed. Although there is NO CAMPING at Mary Anne Dam, there are level sites 100m before the cattle grid on LHS outside the dam area. Local police patrol this area and we have had no problems with the locals at any time. You have access to the dam daily and free hot showers. Mary Anne Dam
